An intimate and idyllic palace
The Generalife which means "Garden of the Architect" is the most remarkable palace around the Alhambra in Granada. Originally built by Sultan Mohammed II in the 13th century, the Generalife was separated by a deep moat from the Alhambra. Vegetable garden palace, orchard palace, garden palace, it was designed as a rich "rural" property at the gates of the more "urban" Alhambra Today, the visit of this place is done at the same time as the Nasrid palace, facilities (stairs, ramps) allow to reach it without great difficulty. If the Generalife has known many owners, it was in 1921 that the Spanish state recovered this place
Go back in time with a trip to the time of the Nasrid Sultans, gardens in interior courtyards, fountains in orchards of orange trees, walk in the middle of all these scents.
Of course the gardens have undergone many changes since that time, but they have kept all the beauty and tranquility desired by the Sultans. What you will notice during your visit is the presence of water even more present than on the site of the Alhambra. This water comes from the Darro River which passes a few kilometers away. The water travels through canals and aqueducts to supply the many fountains and basins in the middle of lush greenery. These water points are so many corners of freshness during the scorching summers of southern Spain.
Throughout your journey in these gardens, you can rest on borders or benches to enjoy the shade of wisteria, palm trees or hedges.
Take the time to stroll through these flower gardens, these patios, its palace. This bucolic walk will allow you to end your visit to the Alhambra on an enchanting note after having surveyed the Nasrid Palace, the Charles V Palace or the Cours des Lions... A piece of advice, don't forget to book your time slot for visiting the Alhambra, there are a lot of people, especially in July/August... despite the heat. The months of September / October being for my part the best period Have a good trip and good souvenir photos
