An unmissable site in Andalusia
The Alhambra, a name that makes travelers who love architecture and history dream. Our trip will allow us to get to know this unique place where the light will delight photographers. The Alhambra is located on the heights of Granada facing the Albacin district (which you can discover in another Post) If you come by car, there is no problem finding the Alhambra, you will find indications everywhere (several car parks await you when you arrive...paying of course). From the city center many public transport will also take you there (line C 3 or C4) As for the visit, here is a downloadable site map
The route is 3.5 kilometers for a visit of 2h30mn. But count a little more, you'll want to stroll through the gardens sheltered from the scorching summer sun. Besides, on this subject, I advise you to come in the spring to see the flowers spread their scents in the gardens ... or better yet, the months of September or October, which are much less hot. On the price side, it will cost you 14 euros for the normal price and will be free for children under 12 (you must take a ticket all the same). Remember that there are 3 million visitors a year and therefore it is strongly advised to reserve your tickets knowing that places are limited to avoid too many people. A tip: take the tickets early in the morning (8:30 a.m.) you will have fewer people, less heat and more beautiful photos to take without having people in front of you all the time) I have to admit that I had a little trouble finding all these names (Nasrid Palace, Generalife, Charles V Palace... Looking more closely, I understood that this set of monuments was composed of 5 main parts:
Le Palais Nasrides
Le Généralife
Le Palais Charles Quint
Les jardins
Les bains de la Mesquita
We therefore begin our visit with the Nasrid Palace (we have an appointment at 8:30 am). As soon as we enter the places we understand that this architectural ensemble is complex but also of rare beauty.
Arabic art from the 12th to the 14th century is everywhere. We cross luxurious rooms, richly decorated where the light plays with the trellises. The walls are covered with earthenware of a rare elegance and finely carved. Each room surprises us with its beauty, we no longer know where to turn.
We leave the Nasrid Palace still stunned by so much splendor to reach the gardens and cross patios of exceptional architecture.
Here we are in front of the Palace of Charles V (king and future emperor of Spain at the beginning of the 16th century) We are on something completely different, another era, just as beautiful but more sober. We can see this time the evolution of the Alhambra over the centuries. This Palace is made up of a round courtyard surmounted by a corridor with dozens of columns.
Upstairs, a passageway leading to monumental spiral staircases and very beautiful rooms. Besides, one of them is a museum that can be visited for free (photo prohibited)
We end the visit to this part of the Alhambra with a visit to the Baths of the Mesquita which is located on the way back to the entrance to the site. Another nice surprise!! Lights that cross the terracotta bricks of the ceiling, red brick columns, small nooks where you can imagine the bathers resting and enjoying this calm and soothing place
So tell me! And the Generalife !!... Well I devoted a Post to it, this jewel deserves it... I therefore give you an appointment on this Post to discover it. I hope I have made you want to visit this jewel of humanity. I wish you a good trip back in time and beautiful souvenir photos
