Seville at the crossroads of cultures
Seville, the main city of the autonomous community of Andalusia was founded 800 years BC. Its very rich cultural and tourist heritage takes us on a journey through time. For photo enthusiasts, you will certainly find subjects that will inspire you. We planned to visit Seville over 2 days. A very short time in view of the cultural riches to see... Which will give us the opportunity to come back.
First of all find accommodation.
Seville has many accommodations for all budgets...You will find your vacation rentals easily HERE
Also discover all the good plans to visit Seville HERE First of all, the emblematic Alcazar of Seville
A tip, plan to buy a fast-track ticket at the best price: with guide or without guide .
You should know that the Alcazar is the place of residence of the King of Spain when he comes to Seville...So if he is present the day you come, you will not be able to visit the palace. But there is a good chance that everything will go well and then you can be blown away by this architectural jewel classified by UNESCO.
As soon as you enter the palace you will be stunned by the beauty of this place... plan in hand, you will have to choose which rooms you will start your journey through time with. Testimony of history, this Moorish palace takes you from room to room, from garden to garden. You can admire the sumptuous interior decorations.
You will stroll through these gardens...An enchanting parenthesis through time
We continue with the visit of the cathedral "Notre Dame du Siege" which is located 200m from the Alcazar (as always a tip, book your tickets in advance) The cathedral was originally a mosque. It is the 3rd largest cathedral in the world after St Peter's in Rome and St Paul's in London. The monument not only has superb architecture, but also has beautifully preserved collections of goldsmithery and paintings...Not to mention the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
It remains to visit the old minaret which has been transformed into a bell tower... It will have been necessary to add an additional 24m to place the bells. At the top you will have a breathtaking view of Seville. No walking to get there, you will walk on an inclined ground so says the legend that the Imam in his time "could climb there with his donkey"
We end the day with a stroll in the Santa Cruz district, also close to the Alcazar...Which is also the old Jewish quarter of Seville. The neighborhood is a maze of alleys and narrow passages with colorful houses. The walk is pleasant, there are many restaurants and squares full of atmosphere. It is the tourist center of Seville.
The next day for our 2nd day spent in Seville, we begin by visiting the Spanish Steps. I had seen many photos of this place on the internet when I prepared this trip to Andalusia. Despite this, the surprise of seeing this place in a semicircle was total, you are amazed by so much beauty, colors, decorations. This square was built for the Ibero-American exhibition of 1929 to celebrate the discovery of America by the Spanish conquistadors. It is full of symbolism, the 4 bridges symbolizing the 4 ancient kingdoms of Spain, the 48 benches, the Spanish provinces. You can rent a boat and browse the canals or climb the stairs that lead you to a terrace from where you will have a panoramic view of this square. With a bit of luck you might see flamenco dancers dancing for the audience.
We continue our day with a tour of the various parks of Seville, a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps
Maria Luisa Park
America Square
The frog fountain
The lion fountain
duck island
We then follow the Guadalquivir to visit the Torre del Oro, a little further on a Spanish Galleon reaches out to us and we end with the bullring of Seville.
We could also have seen if the weather allowed us to visit
And why not a little carriage ride
One last piece of information, we stayed in a "Pierre et Vacances" apartment hotel 2 steps from the metro which allowed us by stopping at the "Puerta de Jerez" station to be close to the city center. In addition, this hotel has private parking in the basement for a modest price...it's a good plan. Good trip to Seville and good photos
