My GR20 at the dawn of retirement

An incredible challenge: the preparation

An incredible challenge launched in the form of a joke, as if to ward off the fate of passing time. A challenge that my son takes up...We will leave together...His girlfriend will follow us in this adventure...We will not be too many 3 to encourage each other...The dice are cast, we have 9 months for us prepare...Logistics, materials, accommodation, period, physical preparation...

My GR20 at the dawn of retirement

From Calenzana to Vizzavona (part 1)

This first stage reminds us that Corsica is not just a beach...from the start, the climb is tough, the body is not yet used to so much effort at such an early hour. We quickly gain altitude, the breath is short, the 14 or 15 kg of the backpack are felt...we finally reach the pass after an ascent of nearly 1000m.

This morning we tackle the 3rd stage: from the Carrozzu refuge to the Asco refuge. A very technical stage that we will do in more than 8h30 and which will therefore take us to the ski resort of Asco...Another beautiful trip and beautiful photos in perspective. 850m of elevation gain and 650 of negative... We will still be familiar with the 2000m of altitude.

If the South is less steep, less "Alpine", it is still not easy at all ... Some passages are still vertiginous. The second part of this trip on the GR20 in Corsica will still bring us many surprises. Beautiful photos in perspective...

The morning rises once again on the GR20 with breathtaking colors.

This 13th stage will take us from the Usciolu refuge to Matalza hut, a short stage (4h30, 11kms) which will allow us tomorrow to cross the plateau of Cuscionu.

In 2013, the GR20 integrated this plateau into its route.

The end of our trip is approaching, tomorrow will be the last day. There is still time to take beautiful photos and continue to visit this beautiful country of Corsica. Today we will go from the Matalza refuge to the I Paliri refuge. It will take us about 7 hours. 2/3 of the way will be downhill...
